circuit breaker pattern, is it worth the overhead

hey all, i've been thinking about implementing the circuit breaker pattern in a few places where we have services that depend on external APIs. it seems like a good way to prevent cascading failures. but, im a bit concerned about the added complexity and potential overhead. has anyone here used circuit breakers extensively? what are your thoughts on when the benefits truly outweigh the implementation cost and potential performance impact? are there specific scenarios where you'd absolutely recommend it, and others where you'd shy away?
