When do you think microservices architecture is just too much?

Everyone talks about how great microservices are, you know, independent deployments, scalability, all that good stuff. But getting them going can be a huge pain, bringing in headaches like distributed transactions, talking between services, and keeping an eye on everything. If you're starting a new project or have a small crew, it honestly feels like it could just be way too much trouble. So, when do you think the hassle of microservices just isn't worth it anymore, and a good old monolith is actually the smarter, more practical way to go? What kind of signs or team sizes make you pick one over the other?
