When to choose a monolith vs. microservices?

We're trying to figure out the best way to build this new project. A few of us are thinking we should go with microservices right away. But, some others feel like a solid monolith would be easier to handle at first, and then we could break it apart later if we have to. What do you think? What things do you look at when you decide this stuff early on?
