real time collaboration, should we build custom real time frameworks

hey folks, we're looking into building a real-time collaborative editing feature and it's got me thinking about the tech stack. sure, there are existing libraries and services out there, but for something as core as real-time collaboration, i wonder if building our own framework from scratch might be better in the long run. it would give us ultimate control, but development time and complexity are big concerns, you know. what are your thoughts. when have you decided to roll your own versus using an off-the-shelf solution for real-time features
