When should you just give up on eventual consistency?

Hey everyone, I've been pondering eventual consistency quite a bit. It's awesome for keeping distributed systems available and speedy, but there are absolutely moments when you absolutely need that strong consistency. When do you all decide 'that's it' with eventual consistency and go for something more solid, even if it costs you some availability or speed? Got any crazy stories or go-to methods you use when you hit that limit?
