async processing for background jobs, rabbitmq vs sqs

Hey everyone, I'm building a new system that needs to do a bunch of background stuff, like resizing images and sending lots of emails at once. We're thinking about using a message queue. We've used SQS before, you know, in a cloud setup, but I'm wondering about using something like RabbitMQ. We could host it ourselves or use a managed service. If you've worked with both, what are the big differences you've noticed? I'm thinking about things like how much work it is to run, what features they offer like advanced routing or fanout, and if one is cheaper than the other when you need to scale up. What do you think?
