How to pick the right database for event sourcing

hey foks im archtecting a new system and were leaning toward event sourcing weve looked at kafka and pulsar as event logs but the actual event store is proving trickier should we be looking at a dedicated event store or can a traditional rdbms or nosql database be made to work effectivly what are your experiences with persistence strategys for event sourced systems
