real-time notifications: websockets or server-sent events?

Hey everyone, I'm working on a project that needs to push real-time updates to users. Think live scores or chat messages. I'm trying to decide between WebSockets and Server-Sent Events (SSE). WebSockets seem pretty powerful, but honestly, they can be a bit tricky to set up and manage. SSE feels like it's simpler for just sending stuff one way, but what are the downsides? For those of you who've built real-time systems before, what was your experience like? When did you end up picking one over the other, and what was the reason? Are there any sneaky problems I should watch out for?
