sync versus async for when services need to talk to each other, you know?

hey folks, been thinking about how we handle communication between services in our microservice architecture. for some synchronous calls, the dependencies can get pretty tangled, and failures can cascade. im leaning towards more asynchronous patterns where possible to improve resilience. what are your thoughts on when to favor async (like message queues) versus when sync (like REST calls) is still the right choice? are there specific scenarios or trade-offs we should be aware of?
