Transitioning from senior engineer to architect: what actually changes?

i've been a senior backend engineer for about four years now, and i'm starting to think about transitioning into an architect role. i'm curious about what actually changes day-to-day. how much hands-on coding is still involved? how do you measure your impact when you're not directly shipping features? what skills become more critical, and which ones transfer well from a senior engineering role? i'm particularly interested in hearing from those who've made this jump recently. is it mostly about communication and strategic thinking, or is there still a deep technical dive required regularly?
