When should you switch from VMs to containers?

hey everyone, i'm trying to figure out the right inflection point for migrating our services from traditional virtual machines to containers like Docker. we're seeing some benefits with containerization on dev machines, but the operational overhead and the need for orchestration (Kubernetes?) feels like a big jump. at what point did you decide the benefits of containers outweighed the complexity for your production environments? what were the key metrics or pain points that pushed you over the edge
