distributed tracing, is it really that important for microservices

hey folks, i've been wrestling with a growing microservices setup, and keeping tabs on requests across all those services is getting to be a real pain. we're thinking about adding a distributed tracing tool, something like Jaeger or Zipkin. if you're already using one, has it made a huge difference for debugging and watching performance? or is the extra work and complexity usually not worth it. i'd love to hear what you've found in the real world.
