service discovery: client-side or server-side? maybe there's a difference.

so, i've been thinking a lot about how services find each other in distributed systems. we've used client-side discovery with tools like Eureka, but i'm curious about server-side discovery, like with AWS ALB or Kubernetes services. what are your experiences. when have you found one approach clearly better than the other, and what were the trade-offs you encountered
