api gateway centralized vs decentralized

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about API Gateway patterns recently. We're looking at switching from one big, central API Gateway to a more spread-out system. This would mean each microservice team would handle their own gateway, or edge service. What's your experience been with either way of doing things? What were the good and bad points you ran into, especially with team independence, how hard it is to manage, and any performance issues? Would love to hear what you think!
