Rate limiter stuff, token bucket versus leaky bucket

hey folks, been thinking about rate limiting strategies lately. we're building a new API and need to decide on the best approach. i've been looking at the classic Token Bucket and Leaky Bucket algorithms. Token Bucket seems more flexible with burst traffic, while Leaky Bucket ensures a steady output rate. what are your experiences? which one have you found more practical to implement and manage in a distributed system, and what were the trade-offs you encountered?
