Transitioning from senior engineer to architect: what actually changes?

i'm a senior backend engineer, been in this role for about four years, and i'm starting to consider a move into an architect role. i enjoy diving deep into technical problems and designing systems, but i'm a bit unclear on what actually changes day-to-day. how much hands-on coding is typically involved? how do you measure your impact when you're not shipping features directly? i'm also wondering about the skills that transfer directly from a senior engineering role and what new skills I'd need to cultivate. it feels like a big step, moving from implementing designs to shaping them across multiple teams. any insights from folks who've made that transition would be really helpful.
