system design how to handle config in distributed systems

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle configuration for all our microservices. Right now, we keep it on a central config server, but it's kind of a pain when a service needs to change its own settings. What do you guys usually do for config in distributed systems? Are you doing dynamic reloads, sidecars, or some other approach? I'd love to hear what you've tried and what actually worked out well.
