caching strategies, when to evict and how

So, I've been mulling over caching, particularly for distributed systems. We're currently leaning on Redis as our main cache, and honestly, it's been a huge help for speeding up reads. The eviction side of things, though, that's the real headache. We've dabbled with LRU, but then we end up ditching stuff that's still super useful. Are any of you using other eviction policies, or do you have clever ways of figuring out what *not* to cache upfront? The goal is to avoid kicking out the good stuff. I'm really interested in hearing about your experiences and what compromises you've made.
