Transitioning from senior engineer to architect: what actually changes?

i've been a senior backend engineer for about four years now, and i'm starting to think about transitioning into an architect role. i enjoy deep-diving into complex technical problems and thinking about system-wide solutions. but i'm a bit hazy on what the day-to-day actually looks like for an architect and how it differs from a senior ic role. will i still be writing code? how much? how do you measure impact when you're not shipping features directly? what are the key skills that transfer well from a senior engineering role, and what new skills do i need to develop? i'm trying to understand if it's the right move for me and how to prepare. any architects here who made that transition? what were the biggest surprises, challenges, or unexpected benefits? any advice on making the jump successfully?
