how do u handle long runnin background jobs

we're seeing more and more tasks that take a while to complete, think image processing, report generation, or complex data exports. currently, we're just firing them off and hoping for the best, but it's starting to cause issues with timeouts and blocking web requests. what patterns or tools have you found most effective for managing these? are you using dedicated job queues, async task runners, or something else entirely? curious to hear your real-world experiences and any pitfalls to avoid
