dont use a sharded database if you just need to handle more reads.

hey all, been thinking about database scaling lately. we're hitting some read contention on our primary, and the usual advice is read replicas. but for writes, or when read volume gets truly massive, when does sharding become the more appropriate solution? what are the key indicators that sharding is needed over just adding more replicas? curious about your experiences
