Is caching at the edge always the right move?

i've been seeing a lot of architectures lately that push caching all the way out to the edge, like Cloudflare or Akamai. for static assets, it's a no-brainer. but for dynamic content, especially user-specific data or frequently changing information, i'm wondering if the complexity outweighs the benefits. are there scenarios where keeping the cache closer to the origin makes more sense, or even avoiding edge caching altogether? what are your experiences and trade-offs with this
