client-side versus server-side service discovery, that's the question

hey everyone, i've been thinking about how services find each other when things are always changing. we've used client-side discovery with stuff like Eureka and Ribbon before, and that felt pretty simple. but i've also seen server-side approaches, using things like Kubernetes' own DNS or Consul. what do you all think about the pros and cons. when did you find one way was much better than the other for handling how services talk to each other
