Async Task Processing: Queues vs. Direct Invocation

hey all, i'm trying to nail down the best approach for handling background tasks in our services. we've got things like sending emails, processing images, and generating reports. right now, some services call each other directly for these, while others are starting to use message queues like RabbitMQ. what's your go-to strategy here? are you strictly sticking to queues for anything async, or do you find situations where direct invocation makes sense even for background work? curious about the trade-offs you've encountered
