whens it time to think about a load balancer?

hey folks, i was thinking about when we typically introduce load balancers into a system. it seems like a common pattern, but im curious about the specific tipping points. obvious ones include scaling beyond a single servers capacity or improving availability by having redundancy. maintenance is another good use case, allowing rolling updates without user impact. are there other less obvious scenarios where a load balancer provides value, or perhaps situations where people have found them to be overkill early on? id love to hear your experiences.
