Circuit breakers, how often do you put them in place?

hey everyone, i've been thinking about circuit breakers lately, especially with microservices. we tend to implement them when a service starts showing high latency or error rates, but i'm wondering if that's too reactive. do you proactively add circuit breakers to critical inter-service communication paths, or wait for things to break? what are your thresholds for adding them?
