sql versus nosql. when is the tradeoff really worth it

hey everyone im wrestling with a decision on a new project and wanted to get some community thoughts. weve got a lot of relational data, but also some unstructured, document-like information. we could try to force it all into sql, or embrace a nosql solution for parts of it. my question is, for those who have made the jump, what were the biggest unexpected hurdles or benefits when choosing nosql over a traditional relational database for specific use cases? whats your go-to criteria for making that call
