kafka or rabbitmq, which is better for fast chats. What do you guys think

hey folks im architecting a new real-time chat feature and trying to decide on the best message queue. we're expecting a lot of concurrent users and messages, so high throughput and low latency are critical. ive been looking at kafka and rabbitmq, and they both seem capable, but im leaning towards kafka for its distributed nature and ability to handle large volumes. has anyone here used either for similar real-time applications at scale? what were your experiences, especially regarding performance under heavy load and operational complexity
