when do you actually need a service discovery thingy prob when your app gets complex and you have lots of

hey folks, ive been thinking about service discovery lately. were growing our microservices quite a bit, and manually updating configuration files for inter-service communication is becoming a pain. at what point do you think it makes sense to bring in a dedicated service discovery tool like Consul or etcd? is it purely about the number of services, or are there other factors like deployment frequency or network topology that tip the scales?
