getting real-time data synced up across microservices

hey folks, i'm looking for good ways to keep data consistent across a bunch of microservices, especially when it needs to be updated almost instantly. our current event-driven setup with Kafka is a bit slow, and I'm curious if anyone's had luck with other patterns or caching tricks to speed things up without making it way too complicated. what do you usually do
