when does event sourcing become a good fit

hey everyone im thinking a lot bout event sourcing lately as an alternative to trad crud for certain parts of our system. seems like it could be prob powerful for auditing and reconstructing state, but im not sure when it crosses the threshold from interesting idea to actually necessary. anyone here adopted event sourcing tho? what prompted the decision, and what were the biggest challenges or benefits you saw
