So, should we focus on making things read faster, or write faster, first?

hey everyone, been thinking a lot about system design lately. we're building out a new service and i'm trying to figure out the right initial focus for performance tuning. it feels like a classic trade-off: optimizing heavily for read operations might make writes slower, and vice versa. what's your general approach? do you typically prioritize one over the other based on expected usage, or do you try to find a balance from the start? curious about what has worked well for you in the past
